About Jon Kim

Dr. Jon Kim, DVM, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida. He earned his DVM from Konkuk University in South Korea. He received his Ph.D in Veterinary Pathology from the same school, where he established veterinary and comparative oncology research. He completed a post-doctoral work at University of Minnesota and Masonic Cancer Center, and established independent comparative oncology research program. As a faculty of the UF AI Initiative, Dr. Kim is focusing on development of novel diagnostic and clinical applications in the field of comparative oncology and translational medicine by utilizing AI and machine learning. His primary research interest is to define fundamental mechanisms of cancers, particularly brain tumors, soft tissue sarcomas, and bone tumors such as osteosarcomas. These tumors occur naturally in companion dogs and children, and his team focuses on revolutionizing comparative oncology research to improve human and animal health. The efforts include integration of AI applications and cutting edge biotechniques such as iPSC modeling, bioprinting, and bioinformatics to create novel reliable models for cancers.
