I am keenly interested in the wonders of teaching, exploring innovative ways to expose students to new information and engage them in the learning process. I have been one of the founding members of the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Academy.
My research interests and ongoing projects include the study of the mechanisms of host immunity as it relates to persistence of diseases, vaccine production, nutrition, and pathology; such as the mechanisms by which Anaplasma and Ehrlichial tick-borne diseases persist in their host, the components of an effec-tive vaccine for persistent organisms and neoplasms, the role nutrition plays in the immune response, and the pathology of cancer, autoimmune disease and hypersensitivity. In addition, exploring the genetics of cancer is a recent collaborative effort.
