Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Creating an Inclusive Environment for The Gator Nation and The World

The College of Veterinary Medicine understands that excellence in education, service and research are enhanced when diversity, equity, and inclusion are practiced among our clients, students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Preparing leaders to solve global problems requires that advocacy for fairness and equity be part of the college’s ethos where everyone feels safe, heard, respected and valued.

Black History Month

African-Americans have played an important role in the veterinary profession. As a college, we wanted to create a space to honor a few of these great stories.

National Women’s History Month

By 1986, 14 states had already declared March as Women’s History Month. This momentum and state-by-state action was used as the rational to lobby Congress to declare the entire month of March 1987 as National Women’s History Month.

Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Celebrated in April at the college due to UF’s academic school year, Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month is usually celebrated in May to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.

Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates and recognizes the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to American society and culture and to honor five of our Central American neighbors who celebrate their independence in September.

Pride Week

The UF College of Veterinary Medicine supported the Pride Veterinary Medical Community during the 2019 WorldPride NYC. Close to 400 veterinarians and friends from across the country turned out on June 30th for one of the largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender pride events in the U.S.

Native American Heritage Month

On August 3, 1990, President of the United States George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month, thereafter commonly referred to as Native American Heritage Month.
