About Pamela E Ginn

After graduating from CSU College of Veterinary Medicine I practiced small animal medicine for 7 years and then pursued a residency in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. I began a faculty position as Chief of Surgical Pathology and Resident Training Coordinator just after passing my boards. I spent the next extended period of time teaching, conducting research on naturally developing disease, training residents and developing an international reputation as a dermatopathologist. I authored chapters on disease of the integument in the most highly regarding veterinary pathology texts used by students, residents and pathologists around the world. I also help to found the International Society for Veterinary Dermatopathology which is a very active worldwide discussion forum today. I think my biggest and most long lasting and impactful contributions to the UFCVM were made during the time I served as Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs. This executive leadership position put me in charge of admissions, student affairs, the curriculum, outcome assessments, offshore education contracts, scholarships and awards and many events from orientation to commencement. Notable accomplishments include establishment of college student learning outcomes to tied to AVMA competencies, mapping of the entire curriculum and working with software engineers to develop a software program for curriculum management and documentation of SLOs, introducing a holistic admissions process, moving the college to one e-learning platform and implementing full scale lecture capture through mediasite, revising the curriculum to allow a clinical skills program to be integrated in the first and second year curriculum and serving as a key member of the design and construction team for building a clinical skills lab. I also implemented an electronic method of coordinating clinical year clerkship assignments that allowed an efficient and fair method of meeting individual student requests. In addition to this, I designed and implemented an online orientation program for incoming first year students that allowed orientation to start immediately after seating the class. This program made orientation much more efficient and effective and manageable for new students and for staff. I also began an effort to recognize the needs of student in terms of Wellness and Work Life Balance. I successfully prepared the College for accreditation by actions from the start of my tenure as Associate Dean to the accreditation process. I authored and presented sections of the accreditation process for Curriculum, Admissions, Outcomes Assessment and student climate. Shortly after the accreditation process was complete I asked to transition out of the position due to the toll on my own health and family. I remained in the office without the title for 3 additional years with the assistance of a Director of Student Affairs and the assistance of the Executive Associate Dean until a new Associate Dean was hired. A recent change in the College administration offered another opportunity to serve on the executive leadership team with Dr. Zimmel as Dean and Dr. Amanda House in the position of Associate Dean. I am now committed to moving the college forward for few more years as an Assistant Dean in charge of Admissions, Scholarships and Awards, Academic Advancement with other contributions as needed. I still enjoy the practice of dermatopathology in a more limited commitment.
