Hurricane Dorian Response

At this time, the UF VETS team is monitoring and preparing for Hurricane Dorian

EVACUATION

  • If you are in an area that is likely to experience flooding and storm surge, please evacuate as early as possible with your animals

  • Interstate import requirements have been suspended for Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee for pets and livestock evacuating from impacted areas.

  • Please call ahead to hotels to ensure that they have pet friendly options available.

  •  Ensure that you have adequate food, water, medications, supplies, documentation,and identification for your animals.

SHELTERING IN PLACE

  • Have 7 days worth of food, water, medications, and supplies for yourself and your animals.

  • Ensure identification for your animals: tags, photos, microchips, etc.

  • Keep livestock in open pastures, not structures. Keep horses and livestock in pastures free of electrical lines, barbed wire, and electric fences.

 

The UF VETS team can respond in coordination with local law enforcement and fire rescue for animal technical rescue emergencies within a two-hour radius of Gainesville, Florida.

Our disaster response team will deploy when tasked with a mission request from the appropriate authorities.
