New Comparative Biomedical Sciences Program advances evolving landscape of veterinary medicine education
The fall 2025 semester marked the launch of the UF College of Veterinary Medicine’s Comparative Biomedical Sciences, or CBS, graduate program in strategic response to the growing educational needs of a new era in veterinary science, where data, technology and interdisciplinary collaboration converge to improve animal, human and environmental health.
The CBS program offers both Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees through an innovative, distinctive academic experience that features a curricular framework to address current and emerging health challenges.
Rooted in comparative biomedical sciences, the CBS program is designed build fluency in data science as well as translational research to deliver in three key areas – a global veterinary perspective on the One Health paradigm, transdisciplinary scientific training and real-world application.
Both the master’s and Ph.D. programs offer nationally recognized mentorship and areas of focus across biomedical, environmental and veterinary sciences that leverage big data, artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to enhance innovation and drive discovery.
UF’s goal is to equip rising leaders of the veterinary profession with the interdisciplinary training and core competencies needed to navigate the data-rich, technology-driven evolving landscape of veterinary medicine.
