Hurricane Idalia Updates

We will update this page during the course of Hurricane Idalia with information relevant to students as well as regarding closures/patient care at UF College of Veterinary Medicine/UF Veterinary Hospitals and our satellite facilities.

Update: Aug. 30, 2023

  • All operations at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine and the UF Veterinary Hospitals have returned to normal as of 5 p.m. Aug. 30.
  • Campus will reopen Thursday, Aug. 31. All first, second and fourth-year DVM students will resume their didactic courses and labs.
  • Clinical students will resume duty at the start of the clinical day on Aug. 31.
  • All other students and college employees are expected to return to work on Aug. 31.

Update: Aug. 28, 2023

DVM and Graduate Students:

  • First, second, and fourth-year students in didactic courses and labs will be dismissed at 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, 8/29, when classes wrap up.  Campus will be closed for the remainder of Tuesday and all of Wednesday, 8/30.  We will await further updates from campus on reopening.
  • Our Office for Academic and Student Affairs will ask faculty to pre-record lectures or use last year’s recorded content during the closure, and labs will be rescheduled.
  • Clinical students are dismissed on Tuesday, 8/29 by 12:20 p.m. and will be off clinical duty until campus operations resume, presumably the start of the clinical day on Thursday, 8/31.
  • Graduate students are dismissed at noon Tuesday, 8/29 and all of Wednesday, 8/30. We will await further updates on reopening.

UF Veterinary Hospital Operations:

  • UF Veterinary Hospitals Gainesville will move to emergency operations only starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 8/29, through Wednesday, 8/30.
  • UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services will close Tuesday, Aug. 29 and will reopen Wednesday, 8/30 at 5 p.m. pending facility status.
  • UF Veterinary Hospital at World Equestrian Center will be open for urgent and emergency small animal patients starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 8/29 through Wednesday, 8/30. The equine hospital will also provide urgent treatment for horses and other large animals sheltered at WEC during that time.

College:

  • All non-essential employees are released  from work at noon on Tuesday, 8/29 until campus resumes operations, presumably Thursday, Aug. 31. We will provide further updates when we receive them.
