Mobile Equine Diagnostic Service (MEDS)
The UF College of Veterinary Medicine recognized the need for our Large Animal Hospital to become more “farm based” and the importance of reinforcing the established relationship between the College and our referring veterinarians (RDVMs) so MEDS was initiated in 2004. This program has been overwhelmingly successful and continues to grow and serve as a resource for veterinarians with diagnostic challenges in their practices in Florida and Southern Georgia.
The MEDS program will provide diagnostic services in an ambulatory setting that include
- Consultation with an Internal Medicine Specialist
- Shockwave Therapy
- Endoscopy
- Gastroscopy
- Ultrasonography
- Echocardiography
- Digital radiography
- Prepurchase Exams
- Lameness/Performance Evaluations
As an added benefit, the service will offer our college’s large animal-oriented veterinary students instruction and practical experience relating to equine veterinary field services.
