Devoted to the science of food animal health maintenance to improve quality and production of the animals providing dairy meat and products, Food Animal Reproduction & Medicine faculty deliver health care and services to this vital sector of the food supply system.

D. Owen Rae, DVM, MPVM
Associate Professor, Service Chief
Dr. Rae’s clinical interests and expertise include beef cattle (cow-calf) herd health and reproductive management. Research focus has been cow-calf nutrition and reproductive performance, including body condition effects on reproduction and calf performance, reproductive tract scoring of heifers and heifer development, Ureaplasma infection in heifers, Tritrichomonas infection in bulls and Johnes prevalence and diagnostics in beef cattle.
G. Arthur Donovan, DVM, MS
Professor
He began his employment with the University of Florida in 1982 following a two year residency in preventive medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Donovan was awarded Diplomate status with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 1986. Dr. Donovan’s research interests include dairy herd health management and epidemiology.
Carlos A. Risco, DVM, DACT
Professor
Dr. Risco’s research focus has been postpartum disorders of dairy cattle, reproductive management programs in dairy herds and gossypol toxicity in ruminants. Dr. Risco is a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists.
Jorge Hernandez, DVM, MPVM, PhD
Professor
Epidemiology Section
Dr. Hernandez has professional experience in Bolivia, Cuba, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Ireland, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Thailand, Switzerland and the United States . His main areas of research interest include clinical epidemiology of diseases in food animals, equine athletes and wildlife.
