1. What happens to my animal after I donate it to the UFVMC?
Donated animals must be suffering due to a medical condition for which it is not possible to provide treatment. Animals that are donated to the UFVMC will be either euthanized immediately or used for research then euthanized. In rare instances we are able to locate an alternate home rather than euthanizing the animal.
2. How do I donate my animal to the UFVMC?
If you are interested in donating your animal to teh UFVMC please contact Marsha Swilley at SwilleyM@vetmed.ufl.edu and click here for the Donation Release Form which you will need to print and either fax to the hospital at (352) 846-0207 or bring it with you when you transport your animal.
3. Do I have to provide transportation for my animal or will the UFVMC pick it up?
The UFVMC does not provide transportation for animals. You will be responsible to arrange transportation to the hospital.
4. What do I need to bring with my animal?
A negative Coggins and the Donation Release Form are all that are required. You do not need to bring your horses registration papers.
5. Is there any cost for donating my horse?
No, there is no cost involved.
6. What kinds of animals are you looking for as donations? Is there any specific condition that my animal needs to have?

7. My horse has Laminitis. Will you treat my horse or use it to study this problem. If so can I get the results of the study.
The UFVMC does not treat horses with Laminitis that are taken in for research programs. These horses are used to educate our students and for research, no reports are provided to previous owners.
