TAL Calendar of Events

 

Seminars:

We host a monthly seminar series usually on the second Wednesday of the month, from 4:00pm - 5:00pm. Guest speakers are asked to provide a scientific seminar at the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Food and refreshments will be provided for seminars.

Lecture Hall B is located at the front of the Veterinary Academic Building (VMAW on the campus map)

VS-20 is located in the vet school complex next to the bookstore and courtyard area. For those coming from outside the vet school: enter through the main doors of the Veterinary Academic Building (VMAW on the campus map), the large, multi-story building on the east end of the vet school's complex, walk straight down the hall until the end and turn right, go out the glass doors and straight across the courtyard, through the glass doors, you will see vending machine and VS-20 is the first door on your left.

VS-7 is in the vet school complex across from Security and northwest of VS-20 (around the corner).

The Equine Auditorium is located just inside the green gates in the Alec P. & Louise H. Courtelis Equine Teaching Hospital (VMEH on the campus map) and is visible from Shealy Drive. Signs will be posted.

Previous Conferences:

The Florida Marine Mammal Health Conference III was held at the Whitney Laboratory in St. Augustine, Florida from April 22-25, 2008. This site provides a link to access some of the poster presentations from this meeting as well as the full agenda. The purpose of this conference is to address issues bearing on the health and well being of the four principal species of wild marine mammals found in Florida waters: manatees, bottlenose dolphins, pygmy sperm whales and Northern right whales, as well as captive marine mammals at theme parks, aquariums, and zoos.

The Florida Marine Mammal Health Conference II was held April 7-10, 2005.

The Florida Marine Mammal Health Conference I was held in April 2002.

Workshops:

Fish Health Management Workshop (Printer-friendly flier)
October 8 - 9, 2009     Tropical Aquaculture Lab in Ruskin, FL
This two-day workshop provides an opportunity for fish farmers to learn about fish health management through lectures and hands-on wet labs. Lecture topics include: basic introduction to fish, fish biology, and fish physiology; introduction to fish health management principles; water quality; pathogens (parasites, bacteria, viruses, and fungi); and treatments. Hands-on wet labs include: water chemistry testing; fish anatomy and necropsy; and how to check for fish parasites.

Fish Health Workshop (Printer-friendly flier)

October 12-13, 2009      Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences in Gainesville, FL

Lecture topics include: water quality; fish biology, anatomy, and physiology; fish nutrition; parasites; bacteria, viruses, and fungi; diagnostic techniques; treatments and calculations. Hands-on wet labs include: water quality analysis and interpretation; fish anatomy and necropsy; parasite ID.
