Education:
BS, Biology, Winthrop University, SC, 2004
Current Research:
The primary focus of my research is the determination of the microanatomy of the manatee thymus and ultimately the microanatomy of the entire immune system. In particular, my objective is to understand the mechanisms that precede involution in the adult thymus and establish the microanatomical environment of a stressed animal. For these studies, I use histological and immunohistochemical techniques such as lymphoid cell localization and staining to study and determine the structures in these organs.
Laboratory Experience:
- DNA extractions
- Gel electrophoresis
- Protein synthesis
- Quantitative UV assays
