Research Interests:
My overall research interest is to elucidate host-pathogen relationships that determine whether an individual develops disease or overcomes infection without an adverse outcome. My current research is focused on urogenital tract diseases, specifically, urinary tract infection with and without stone formation, and adverse pregnancy outcome secondary to intrauterine infection. I work mainly with opportunistic bacterial pathogens from the class mollicutes, but I also work with Porphomonas gingivalis as part of a collaborative project with the College of Dentistry. As part of my approach I develop animal models of human disease with the intention to elucidate the host specific factors that confer disease susceptibility or resistance to infection. Through the use of microbiology, genomics, proteomics and computational biology, my goal is to identify biomarkers of disease susceptibility as well as delineate the host specific gene regulatory networks that contribute to adverse outcome secondary to infection.
