The Surgery Service

Practicing veterinarians may visit the Small Animal Surgery Service at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine for a duration of one to two weeks. Either soft tissue surgery or orthopedic surgery, or a combination may be scheduled. Veterinarians will participate as observers in the operating room and join students, interns, and residents in daily rounds and case discussions. Resident seminars, Clinical Pathological Conference, Surgery Resident Rounds, and Small Animal Surgery Journal Club may be attended. The small animal surgery service caseload varies in the type of surgical cases and quantity of cases so observation of specific procedures cannot be guaranteed. Availability of specific weeks is dependent on didactic teaching load and other responsibilities of the surgical faculty during each semester. Questions regarding this opportunity may be directed to Dr. Gary W. Ellison, Service Chief for the Small Animal Surgery Service.
