Wildlife Diseases and Parasitology
Faculty: |
We have a diverse background with varied interests and vast expertise in diseases of free-ranging wildlife, exotics in captivity, and domestic species. Florida has a plethora of species of native and exotic animals and has many zoological collections ranging from private breeding facilities to large public zoos. In order to understand the implications of long recognized and emerging diseases in these animals, our faculty has studied diseases of mammals, birds, reptiles and fish in Florida. We also have experience in other regions of the world studying the epidemiology and impact of diseases on animal populations. Most of our approaches are more classical, but we are associated with researchers who use molecular technologies to blend the best of both avenues of study. There is also experience in commercialization of research results as in the case of eradication of exotic ticks on reptiles.
